How to choose flooring that suits your Perth home

New flooring changes the whole feel of a home, but with so many options it's easy to get stuck. The right choice really comes down to matching the material to the room, how much traffic it gets, and how you actually live. Here's a plain-English rundown to help you narrow it down.

Start with the room. A quiet bedroom has very different needs to a busy hallway, a kitchen, or a room that opens onto the backyard. Think about foot traffic, spills, sunlight and whether kids or pets are in the picture. That usually points you toward the right type before you even look at colours.

Timber. Solid and engineered timber floors are hard to beat for warmth and character, and they suit Perth's relaxed, indoor-outdoor style beautifully. They're an investment, and they can be sanded back and refreshed years down the track, but they're better suited to living areas than wet zones.

Laminate. If you love the timber look but want to spend less, laminate is a solid middle ground. Modern laminates look sharp and stand up well to everyday wear, which makes them popular for families who want a good finish without the top-end price.

Hybrid and vinyl plank. These have become go-to options for good reason. They handle moisture far better than timber or laminate, so they suit kitchens, laundries and busy family areas.
